Gary Starkweather 는 69년 Xerox at New York 에서 laser printer 를 개발한다. 이 후 곧바로 Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) 연구소로 전근하여 이를 추진하려고 하지만 Xerox사의 무관심으로 거절당한다.
