Survey(서베이)라 함은 우리가 가장 흔히 접하는 사회조사 방법중의 하나이다. 이 위키(교재)와 관련해서 이야기 한다면, 서베이 방법은 1 (Conjunctive), 2 (Attribute-based) 에 해당하는 이론적 접근 방법을 사용하는 연구에 많이 사용된다고 하겠다. 서베이는 아래의 그림에서

아래쪽 녹색 선 부분에 대한 연구절차를 의미하는 것이며, 이는 곧 관련된 IV, DV를 측정하여야 함을 의미한다. 즉, 독자가 서베이 문항에 대답하면서 “귀하의 성별은?”이라는 질문을 접한 이유는 성별이라는 변인이 연구자가 관심을 갖는 변인 중의 하나였기 때문이었을 가능성이 크다. 따라서 서베이 문항을 만드는데 있어서 가장 중요한 것은 자신이 측정하고자 하는 변인을 제대로 측정하는 질문을 하는가이다 (Validity 참조).
